Turkey swimming

Swimming in Turkey was a special experience and one that I will never forget. We were based in Kas, which is a small, vibrant coastal town in South West Turkey.

The sea was crystal clear, a balmy 21-22C (in May) and had lots of interesting sea life to admire. The air temperature was in the mid to high 20s every day and conditions were pretty perfect for really fantastic swims.

We saw so many sea turtles and the locations for the swims were absolutely idyllic.

We enjoyed swims at various locations including coastal swims around the Kas peninsular, exploring sheltered bays, coastal swims backed by dramatic cliffs and mountains, a swim over the top of ancient underwater ruins as well as a morning completing island hopping where our swim connected 5 islands.

Every day we travelled from the small harbour and out into the beautiful, blue Mediterranean ocean.

Borut Strel (our lead guide) decided on the best locations for the days swimming, taking careful consideration of the conditions to make sure we got the most from our adventure. The boat was very comfortable and had space for sun bathing and relaxing. Safety during the swims was paramount and we were well looked after by two guides on separate crafts as well as the Turkish boat.

Hotel Maki was ideal for our stay.

It is positioned a short walk away from the vibrant Kas town, minutes from the harbour, restaurants and interesting shops. Every evening our group walked into Kas and chose a different restaurant to eat at. The meals were good value for money and delicious.

The town is geared up for tourists on diving excursions and several people in my group stayed on a couple of days to make the most of the high quality dive sites. There are several interesting day trips that you can take from Kas if you chose to stay on for extra days.

Truly, swimming in Turkey was very special and a holiday of a lifetime.

It was a perfect location for some top swimming and I will never forget the experience. For keen swimmers of all abilities I would really recommend this trip.

Thank you Strel Swimming team, I will be back soon!
